STUDENT PLACEMENTS

The tourism landscape has changed dramatically, and innovation has never been more important to rebuild and grow the industry. TiCSA has partnered with Flinders University as the quality education provider of choice, to provide cutting edge research, professional development, and opportunities for student placements, to lead to a strong local industry that responds to the new challenges of the 21st Century.

Student Membership - Flinders University

Flinders University offers a strong suite of tourism and events degrees, including:

The Bachelor of Tourism and Events, an industry-focused degree that prepares its students for employment both nationally and internationally in areas such as tour companies, museums, event management consultancies, art galleries and festival organisations. The degree also provides opportunities for networking and placements with industry partners, such as TiCSA.

The Bachelor of International Business (Wine, Spirits and Tourism) a business focused degree that prepares its graduates to work in the wine and spirits industry. This course embeds a WSET Level 2 qualification as part of the degree in partnership with TAFE SA.

In partnership with FOMENT, Australia’s Viti, Wine and Tourism Tech Revolution, Flinders offers intensive acceleration to innovative wine and tourism tech companies that are ready to scale up, and then connects them with businesses in the industry that are positioned to use their products and services.

Flinders University has world-leading and inspiring research:

Flinders is known for world-leading research in areas related to tourism and events. For example, Dr Gareth Butler has worked on several domestic and international projects that focus on tourism resilience and recovery, increasing public engagements with national parks and nature, and the socio-economic benefits of developing tourism in regional areas. Associate Professor Will Peterson is an expert in international arts festivals, and interactions between Asia and the West through performance at international expositions.

Our researchers can work with you to explore issues relevant to your organisation such as sustainable tourism development, community engagement, consumer perceptions, branding, and attractiveness, to enable you to more deeply understand and enhance your business. Opportunities exist to work with staff, as well as with Honours students and Higher Degree by Research (PhD) students on projects for your organisation.

BECOME A PLACEMENT PARTNER

We invite the tourism industry to partner with Flinders by placing a student in your business who will add demonstrable value to your organisation. Our Work Integrated Learning program ensures our students have practical, industry specific experiences that cover everything from communication and teamwork to critical thinking and problem solving.

Your organisation can benefit from:

  • a dedicated resource to complete a project or task and boost your business’ capacity
  • enthusiastic new talent with fresh ideas and new ways of thinking, who have been studying your field and its needs from a different perspective
  • a potential recruitment pathway, or an opportunity to talent-pool
  • engagement with the community and one of the world’s leading universities.

The program has been developed with an understanding that we must meet the needs of both our students and industry partners, to produce an integrated learning experience that benefits everyone.
