On Monday 13 October, I had the opportunity to attend the State Government’s announcement of the $15 million Coast is Calling – Dining Cashback program, designed to encourage South Australians to dine out and spend in coastal hospitality venues over the valuable warmer months.
Also pleasing was the confirmation of Round 2 of the Coast is Calling tourism voucher program, with a travel window extending from December through to the end of the April 2026 school holidays. Building on the success of Round 1, we hope this announcement brings renewed confidence to our coastal operators. The SATC website has more information on how you can participate.
Combined with the ongoing Coast is Calling marketing campaign and resources like the new Beachsafe app, which helps visitors and locals plan safe and enjoyable beach visits, there’s every reason to expect South Australia’s stunning coastline to be buzzing this summer.
Of course, the current algal bloom event continues to present real challenges for many operators. Next Wednesday, 22 October, we are holding a free webinar to assist eligible businesses to apply for an Algal Bloom Small Business grant, with insights from the Office for Small and Family Business and a successful grant recipient. Click here to register. We remain in close contact with government and are continuing to advocate for ongoing practical support. As I’ve outlined previously, we are firm in our calls for:
- Direct economic support for impacted businesses
- Direct support for affected destinations
- A coordinated, long-term plan from state and federal governments to prevent similar future events
The recent announcements are a welcome indication that government is listening and responding to industry needs.
Lastly, a reminder that the South Australian Tourism Awards Gala Dinner is just around the corner. Tickets are on sale now – don’t miss your chance to celebrate excellence in tourism and connect with your industry peers at this highlight on the calendar. Read on below for details on how to book.
Warm regards
