The National Visitor Survey (NVS) results for March 2019 show that South Australia recorded strong growth in interstate and intrastate expenditure, while day trips expenditure was down. Overall the value of tourism in South Australia is now worth $7.2 billion, up from $6.8 billion.
- Interstate expenditure was up 23% to $2,455 million (national average was up 13%)
- Intrastate expenditure was up 12% to $2,140 million (national average was up 15%)
- Day trips expenditure was down 2% to $1,566 million (national average was up 12%)
The $8 billion and 41,000 jobs targets by the end of 2020 is within reach. We will continue to lobby State Government on priority areas for support, top of the list is the need for the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) to receive $50m annually to drive demand through marketing activities.
The other news is the approval announced by Acting Minister for Environment and Water, Hon Stephan Knoll, for the Australian Walking Company (AWC) proposed eco-accommodation on Kangaroo Island.
This project will deliver numerous benefits to Kangaroo Island and the broader South Australian economy. To have AWC expand its Australian walking program to South Australia is an exciting new development for our state.
