The International Visitor Survey (IVS) results released today for the year ending December 2018 show that South Australia experienced a decline in visitor expenditure.
International expenditure for South Australia was down 3% to $1.101 billion, while the national average was up by 8%.
Developing our growth momentum is critical to ensure we reach the 2020 targets ($8 billion and 41,000 jobs) and those beyond. Without ongoing support from the government, achieving this goal and other future targets will become much more challenging for the industry.
As the voice of tourism in South Australia, TiCSA continues to reinforce the need for the South Australian Tourism Commission to receive adequate funding to fulfil its role and maximise the impact of its global marketing activities.
Most recently the Western Australian Government announced that the 2019-20 funding would include an additional $9 million investment to support the international marketing initiatives delivered by Tourism Western Australia.
We are also advocating for the government to work collectively and commit to a workforce development and business capability program. This will ensure our tourism operators and their staff have the skills to deliver world-class experiences.
